Change is in the air

Of course it is, the summer has gone out the back door and the autumn is approaching fast down the front drive!

It hit home this morning when I had to dress the girls and on opening their drawers I found lots of neatly folded shorts and vests sets, pretty dresses hanging in the cupboard and light airy playsuits but no, none of these would do for today as there was a chill on the air – an autumn chill.

Damn! Summer has gone and moved out, no Indian summer to hang on to as I had been hoping in earnest. It’s time to dig out all of their clothes from the spring to see if any still fit and then calculate what needs adding to their wardrobe.

One thing to look forward to though in my opinion is boots. I love them and already have my eye on some from Next for the girls thanks to some birthday vouchers I still have from their aunt and uncle. And of course more importantly, wearing the boots on walks in Shorne Country Park, kicking up leaves, splashing in puddles and warm inside padded jackets, scarves and hats, not forgetting the mittens for little hands.

I also think the TV gets better in the autumn, so when the girls are in bed I can snuggle on the sofa and lose myself in a good drama with a hot cup of tea AND I can enjoy our fireplace as we’ve never had one before.

Halloween is on the agenda and at our Twin Club meeting on Monday we have decided to hold a party for the little ones, I’m wondering if this is more for our benefit so we can see them looking fabulously cute in their scary costumes and impress the mums with our cookery skills as we produce cupcakes, wobbly spider jellys and the like taking inspiration from Annabel Karmel and her fabulous Halloween menu.

We actually spoke about the Christmas party too, running through who’s going to be Santa this year? What pressies will he give out? and shall we hire a hall so we can have a bouncy castle. Yes readers, the ‘C’ word has finally been mentioned and discussed at great length. Early? Possibly but you know how booked up things get in December, we have to make a move and get in quick.

My other half hates the end of summer where as I prefer to look forward to the good things due rather than dwell on the lost; beautiful colourful landscapes all around, the perfect excuse to drink hot chocolate at long last, evenings in eating stews, casseroles and hot soup lunches and roasts on Sundays again – yayyyyy!
